Assistance in TEST Activities (Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production) in 6 SMEs of the Agribusiness Sector
Country: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea
The Transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies (TEST) employs an integrated approach that combines the Cleaner Production Assessment (CPA) methodology with core elements of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Energy Management Systems (EnMS). This approach emphasizes exploring eco-efficient technologies and leveraging Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) to establish effective information systems for tracking material and energy flows. The project aimed to identify and address land-based pollution hotspots across the Niger River Basin by transferring innovative environmentally sound technologies and focused on improving the environmental performance of manufacturing industries within the basin, among other things. The scope of the project included :
Identifying land-based pollution hotspots in the Niger River Basin to target intervention efforts.
Implementing TEST2 methodology to reduce environmental footprints, pollution loads, and wastewater discharges.
Capacity-building and knowledge enhancement initiatives to improve the environmental performance of industries.
Promoting Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) by enhancing resource efficiency and cleaner production methods across manufacturing industries in the basin.
Enabling private sector participation in Integrated Water Resource Management by reducing industrial impacts.
This project supported sustainable industrial development while contributing to the improved management of the Niger River Basin’s water resources.
