Development of Eco-Industrial Parks (EIPs) Strategy of Senegal: Promoting industrial symbiosis and RECP techniques Industrial Parks of Senegal

The Senegal SC-IAP project aimed to enhance the capacity for planning and implementing sustainable city management practices, focusing on the integration of sustainable industrial parks and the upgrading of enterprises in the greater Dakar region. By addressing urban and industrial development challenges, the project supported national government bodies such as the Department of Environment and Classified Establishments (DEEC), Agence Sénégalaise de Promotion des Zones Industrielles (APROSI), and other stakeholders (e.g., road infrastructure authorities, customs, industries, and businesses) in designing, implementing, and managing sustainable industrial parks through an integrated urban planning approach.
Key activities of the project encompassed 3 tasks :
i) Developing a Strategy for Sustainable Industrial Parks by creating a comprehensive strategy to guide the design, implementation, and management of sustainable industrial parks, ensuring the integration of these parks into the urban fabric of cities.
ii) Training Stakeholders in Sustainable Industrial Park Integration through
– Verifying training requirements of governmental institutions for establishing green industrial parks under integrated urban planning.
– Developing a tailored training program to meet governmental institutions’ needs.
– Preparing training materials and developing knowledge products focused on integrated urban planning for sustainable industrial parks.
– Developing minimum two training workshops for 50 participants, ensuring 30% representation of women.
– Developing and disseminating guidelines and decision support tools for creating green industrial parks within integrated urban planning frameworks.
iii) Strengthening Technical and Institutional Capacity in Renewable and Low-Carbon Technologies by
– Assessing the needs of government institutions regarding energy efficiency, waste management, renewable energy, and low-carbon technologies in the industrial sector.
– Preparing training materials addressing these needs.
– Conducting at least two training workshops targeting 80 participants, with 30% being women.
– Enhancing the capabilities of Agence de la Maitrise de l’Energie (AEME), APROSI, and other relevant stakeholders to support the adoption of renewable energy, low-carbon, and chemical and waste management technologies in the industrial sector.
